The term “hero’s chest” for the front side of BMW boxer engines originated among enthusiasts back in the days of the legendary two-valve boxers. The term, used with a wink, has stuck – even though the “chest” of the old two-valvers now looks rather modest compared to the pronounced and impressive front of all current BMW R 1300 models. Times do change.

What hasn’t changed, however, is that the front wheels still bombard the boxer engines with spray, grit, stones – especially on black engines – and dirt. That’s why we’ve developed a protective shield for the so-called hero’s chest of the BMW R1300 RT, RS and R.
